What is Family Tax Benefit (FTB)?

The Family Tax Benefit (FTB)

The Family Tax Benefit (FTB), divided into Part A and B, is a family assistance payment that can help you with the cost of raising dependent children. You must have a dependent in your care, be an Austrailian resident and meet the income test.

Family Tax Benefit Part A is payable to the parent or guardian of a child under age 21 or a dependent full-time student between the ages of 21 and 24.

Family Tax Benefit Part B provides additional financial assistance to families with one main income earner. This includes sole parent families with a dependent full-time student up to the age of 18 years.

The amount of the benefit depends on your family’s individual circumstances. The Family Tax Benefit is no longer administered by the ATO since 1 July 2009. In order to apply, you must lodge with the Family Assistance Office.
